What makes this gumbo ‘sassy’? It’s all about the balance of spices! We’ve carefully crafted a blend that’s flavorful without being overpowering. The cayenne pepper provides a gentle kick, while the thyme and oregano add depth and complexity.

Tips for the Perfect Gumbo:

  • The Roux is Key: Don’t rush the roux! Cooking the flour and butter slowly is essential for developing a rich, nutty flavor. Keep a close eye on it and stir constantly to prevent burning.
  • Layer the Flavors: Add the vegetables and spices in stages to allow each ingredient to shine.
  • Simmer, Simmer, Simmer: A long simmer time allows the flavors to meld together and create a truly harmonious dish.
  • Adjust the Spice: Feel free to adjust the amount of cayenne pepper to suit your taste.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve your Sassy Chicken and Sausage Gumbo with a scoop of fluffy white rice and a sprinkle of chopped green onions. A side of crusty bread is perfect for soaking up the flavorful broth. A cold beer or a glass of sweet tea complements the gumbo beautifully.
