Tips for the Best Rustic Italian Bowls:
- Don’t overcook the pasta: Aim for al dente, as it will continue to cook slightly when tossed with the sauce.
- Sauté the vegetables until softened but still slightly crisp: This will retain their flavor and texture.
- Use high-quality ingredients: Fresh basil and a flavorful pasta sauce will make a big difference.
- Garnish generously: A sprinkle of Parmesan cheese and a handful of fresh basil will elevate the dish.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Can I make this recipe vegetarian?
A: Absolutely! Simply omit the chicken or Italian sausage. You could also add chickpeas or white beans for extra protein.
Q: Can I use a different type of pasta?
A: Yes! Rotini, penne, or farfalle would all work well.
Q: Can I make this ahead of time?
A: While best served immediately, you can prepare the sauce and cook the pasta ahead of time. Store them separately and combine just before serving.
Q: What if I don’t have fresh basil?
A: Dried basil can be used in a pinch, but fresh basil will provide the best flavor. Use about 1 tablespoon of dried basil in place of 1/2 cup of fresh.
Q: Can I add other vegetables?
A: Definitely! Zucchini, spinach, mushrooms, or eggplant would all be delicious additions.
