Tips for the Best Chicken and Dumplings:

  • Don’t Skip the Broth: Using the broth from cooking the chicken is key to achieving that rich, flavorful base.
  • Simmer, Don’t Boil: A gentle simmer ensures the dumplings cook through without becoming tough.
  • Drop by Teaspoonfuls: This creates perfectly sized dumplings that cook evenly.
  • Adjust Seasoning: Taste as you go and adjust the salt and pepper to your liking.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Can I use pre-cooked chicken?
A: Yes, you can! If you’re short on time, using a rotisserie chicken or pre-cooked chicken breasts is a great option. Just add it in during the simmering stage.

Q: Can I use different vegetables?
A: Absolutely! Feel free to add other vegetables like celery, potatoes, or peas to the soup.

Q: Can I make this recipe ahead of time?
A: The soup base can be made a day ahead and stored in the refrigerator. Add the dumplings just before serving.

Q: What kind of biscuits work best?
A: Bisquick is a classic choice for its ease and reliability, but you can use your favorite biscuit mix or even homemade biscuit dough.

Q: Can I freeze leftovers?
A: Yes, but the dumplings may become a bit softer after freezing. It’s best to freeze the soup base without the dumplings and add fresh dumplings when reheating.

We hope you enjoy this comforting and delicious recipe as much as our family does! It’s more than just a meal; it’s a hug in a bowl.
