Instructions
In a large pot or Dutch oven, melt butter over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Add diced potatoes and chicken broth to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
Stir in diced ham, heavy cream, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. If desired, add garam masala for extra flavor.
Simmer for another 5-10 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
